Today
21 January, Monday Dubbed Most Depressing Day of the Year 2013
Cliff Arnall who is a Psychologist has
calculated that 21 January, Monday, today is the most depressing day of this
year.
Arnall was hired by Sky Travel in 2005 to
identify what date is best for people to start planning their summer holidays,
and realized he could pinpoint the worst date of the year for most people. His
statistical examination points to the third Monday after the holidays.
“I was originally asked to come up with
what I thought was the best day to book a summer holiday but when I started
thinking about the motives for booking a holiday, reflecting on what thousands
had told me during stress management or happiness workshops, there were these
factors that pointed to the third Monday in January as being particularly
depressing,” he says.
Setting this date might turn it into a
self-fulfilling prophecy, so he encourages people to ignore the result of his
survey and stay positive, Telegraph notes.
According to Inquisitr, Arnall based his
assumption on debt and motivational levels, and dreary weather. On “Blue
Monday,” bills racked up during the holidays are starting to catch up with us,
New Year's resolutions begin to fall apart and the cold makes it difficult to
perform daily activities.
Christmas is behind us, and we have to
get readjusted to our work schedules, making it difficult for us to stay
upbeat.
If this day hasn't been all that great
for you, then Arnall may have been right. Leave your thoughts in the comments
section.
